A fantastic opportunity has arisen at London Brewing Company for a new Assistant Brewer to join our team. Founded in 2011, we have been brewing on our 10hL brewery in a large brewpub in Finchley (http://www.thebohemia.co.uk/), London since January 2014. We may be small but we definitely punch above our weight, producing excellent award-winning keg and cask ale for the capital and beyond.

We are looking for an ambitious, self-managing individual with the enthusiasm to learn, to help us thrive and grow, and ultimately make delicious beer! You will work closely with Head Brewer Alex (ex Beavertown and The Kernel) in all aspects of the production process, including wort production, cellaring and packaging. You don’t have to be the finished article, and we will consider candidates who are in the early stages of their careers in this industry, supporting them with training and development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform cellar operations including monitoring gravities, yeast cropping and pitching, dry-hopping with our ‘Hop Gun’ and beer transfers.
  • Be proactive in taking responsibility for good overall brewery hygiene including CIPs on vessels and product lines.
  • Perform Quality Control checks in line with our quality program.
  • Perform packaging responsibilities including cleaning and filling of kegs and casks.
  • Assist in brewhouse operations during wort production.
  • Stock management support.
  • Adhere to health and safety standards at all times.
  • Thorough record-keeping of brew day, fermentation and packaging.
  • Preparation and clean down of packaging equipment.
  • Promote a productive and safe workflow.


Experience and requirements:

  • Positive and committed attitude, with a keen eye for detail and good problem-solving skills.
  • Good organisational and communication skills.
  • Happy to meet with customers, and suppliers, talking about and presenting our beer.
  • Enthusiastic and personable, with a passion for and good knowledge of beer.
  • A strong understanding of teamwork and how going the extra mile benefits the whole work dynamic.
  • A good understanding of hygiene processes and their importance in the brewery.
  • Flexibility around shift patterns as and when required.
  • Able to cope with the demands of a very physical job.


Desirables:

  • At least one year’s experience in a previous brewery production role.
  • Relevant qualification (IBD, Heriot-Watt University, etc.) desirable but not essential or a background in Chemistry, Chemical Engineer, Microbiology, Mechanical Engineering, or Food Science/Technology.
  • A full clean UK driving license.
