Anspach & Hobday Bring Oktoberfest to Croydon

This September, LBA member Anspach & Hobday will once again be bringing the spirit of Bavaria to South London with their much-anticipated Oktoberfest celebration.

Set for Saturday 20th September 2025 at their Croydon Brewery, the festival will showcase a trio of freshly brewed German-style lagers, poured direct from the tank, alongside the brewery’s celebrated London Black – recently named Britain’s best beer for 2025.

The Beers

Guests can look forward to three special releases brewed for the occasion:

  • Ansbacher Festbier (5.8% ABV) – A golden, celebratory lager inspired by Munich’s Oktoberfest, clean and refreshing with noble hop character and subtle malt sweetness.

  • Rauchbier (5.5% ABV) – A dark smoked lager in the Bamberg tradition, brewed with beechwood-smoked malt for aromas of toasted grain and sweet cured bacon.

  • Ansbacher (5% ABV) – A premium Helles-style lager, crisp, balanced, and brewed in abundance for the season.

To round out the line-up, the award-winning London Black will also be pouring – a nitro porter that has quickly become a modern London classic and a reminder of the brewery’s commitment to reviving porter as the city’s original style.

The Atmosphere

The Croydon taproom will be transformed with traditional decorations, accordion music, and authentic Bavarian food courtesy of BavarianBoy Catering. Expect bratwurst, currywurst, leberkäse, käsespätzle, and fresh brezels to complete the experience.

This Oktoberfest is our way of celebrating lager at its finest while honouring our shared brewing heritage,” said Paul Anspach, co-founder of Anspach & Hobday. “With London Black taking home the top honour this year, we’re thrilled to share it alongside our seasonal specials in a setting that captures the joy of beer festivals.
