Assistant Manager at The Rake

The Rake are currently seeking an Assistant Manager to support operations at their bustling beer-focused bar in Borough Market, playing a pivotal role in supporting the Manager, ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of the establishment.

Salary: £29,900 per annum.

Here are some of the key roles and tasks.

Operational Duties:

  • Must be a personal license holder
  • Staff Management: Supervise and coordinate the work of bar staff, including scheduling, training, and holiday allocation.
  • Inventory Control: Assist in the monitoring and managing inventory levels of beer, spirits and other bar supplies to support the manager. To be responsible for the supply and control of housekeeping supplies.

Cost Control:  Implement company strategies to minimise costs and maximise profitability, such as negotiating supplier deals and reducing waste.
Compliance: Ensure compliance with all liquor laws and regulations, including responsible beverage service and age verification.
Quality Control: Maintain high standards of product quality and ensure that all drinks are prepared and served correctly.
Sustainability: To be responsible to the manger for implanting a sustainability polices such as waste management.

Customer Service:

  • Customer Satisfaction: Provide exceptional customer service by interacting with guests in a friendly and knowledgeable manner.
  • Problem Resolution: Address customer complaints and issues promptly and effectively.
  • Guest Experience: Create a welcoming and enjoyable atmosphere for customers, contributing to the overall success of the bar.


Bar Management:

  • Shift Supervision: Oversee bar operations during shifts, ensuring that all tasks are completed efficiently and effectively.
  • Training: Assist in the conduct regular training sessions for bar staff to improve their skills and knowledge.
  • Event Coordination: Lead at Managers direction with the planning and execution of special events and promotions.
  • Opening and Closing Procedures: Ensure that the bar is opened and closed according to established procedures.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Marketing: Lead at the direction of the manager with marketing initiatives to attract new customers and promote the bar's offerings.
  • Health and Safety: Maintain a safe and hygienic working environment.
  • Security: Ensure the security of the bar and its patrons.
  • In a busy beer-focused bar in Borough Market, an Assistant Manager must be able to handle a fast-paced environment, work well under pressure, and have a passion for craft beer and the hospitality industry.
