Head Brewer at Tap East

Job Description:

The Head Brewer is completely responsible for all matters concerning the running of the Brewery and reports to the company directors, however it is vital that the brewery keeps a strong line of communication with the General Manager of the Bar this should be in the form of a regular meetings to discuss current beer availability / stock levels, what beers are being brewed for the bar, future events, cellar management and matters that may affect the running of the bar or visa versa.

Managing the breweries inventory of raw materials, taking stock of and reordering as needed. (e.g. Hop contracts, malt orders etc.)

  • Managing the transport of raw materials and finished products between retail outlets and our warehouse space.
  • Carrying out both reactive and preventative maintenance on equipment in the brewery, and organising repairs by third parties as needed.
  • Brewing and packaging Tap Easts core range of beers and developing recipes for one off and seasonal specials.
  • Ensuring all paperwork is filled out accurately and there is an audit trail for all raw materials, from grain to glass.
  • Ensuring the brewery is clean and well presented.
  • As needed, project managing contract brews with third parties and ensuring our beer is within the specifications set.
  • Being the first point of contact for any enquiries relating to the brewery.
  • Entering our beers into local and regional competitions and representing the brewery at events (e.g. SIBA, LBA & CAMRA festivals).   
  • Managing the workload of an Assistant Brewer (in the brewery 16 hours/ week) and helping them develop their brewing skills.
  • Filling all HMRC paperwork for the brewery accurately and on time.
  • Liaising with other members of the management team in the planning of promotional events.
